Noh Fan Screen - Moon and Waves
Oppose to the previous design with the sun, this one has serene taste, yet with dynamic atmosphere. In Japan, the moon represents anonymous act driven by selfless heart as it reflects the light onto the earth. Perhaps we will be able to nurture by stitching this piece!
The challenge is to express the folding of the fan by silk threads and metallic threads. Direction of stitching is also concerned.

Hello, I hope your stitching is going well.
This is another fan design from the series. Maple tree with river is a typical scenery of Japan. As river has a power to wash away the contamination, it is known to represents the purification. You may be able to feel the same when you observe the river next time. Stitching may also help you to wash away the static of your mind and lead you to the harmonious life.

This design is called "Life in Spiral" and it was introduced in past teachers class. It has a cherry tree in swirl which represents the journey of life. Center of the fabric is dyed with deep blue. As you may have already noticed, the trunk is upside down. Cherry blossoms symbolizes the incidents and emotions in life.
Choosing fabric is one of the challenges we must take in Nuido. For example this fabric is stitched on a fabric with special weaving. The fabric itself has strong impression with swirls all over, and design should not be overwhelmed by it.
So as the colors; they have to be harmonized with fabric.
We must be patient until we begin to feel the atmosphere of design and should concentrate all of our senses in stitching to ride on the flow.
After overcoming all these challenges, I'm sure your love towards Nuido will be deepened.
