Wish List Fabrics
The aesthetic possibilities of Japanese embroidery are varied and endless. Use of fabric enhanced with a special dye-arrangement figure among the ways to produce a vivid effect within the work.
Hand-dyeing is itself an art, one that is becoming increasingly rare in the Japanese textiles industry. Dyeing a cut of fabric takes time and requires expert skill; therefore, it can be an expensive investment for the artisans that produce it.

Securing specially-dyed fabric for JEC designs or fabric-only orders likewise imposes a risk on the Center, in the event that these custom-ordered items cannot be moved (they are not budgeted in with JEC's regular stock). Therefore, availability from the Center is random, and necessarily dependent on funding from interested customers for restock. Normally, this translates to four or five deposits (up to ten for double-wide fabric) of $100.00/ea. needed down before the Center can secure a bolt of fabric from the manufacturer (may take two or more months for JEC acquisition). This is why we refer to them as "wish list" fabrics.
Upon receipt, wish list fabrics are available for sale on a first-come, first-serve basis (depositors already have their cut reserved, with deposit credited toward the cost of their fabric purchase). Cuts are sold "by each," rather than per inch. JEC media and correspondence endeavor to keep our customers informed upon acquisition and stock of these fabrics. Restock of a bolt requires a repeat of this process.
