Phase 4

Four Seasons

Once in a while, leaves get the chance to be the belle of the ball rather than a wallflower.  Usually a design shows many leaves supporting each flower, but this is one of those rare times when leaves, rather than flowers are the center of attention. These leaves contain the color of the previous season as well as the color of the approaching season.

The upper-left leaf is couched with light green thread for spring.
The upper-right leaf has blue couching for coolness in summer.
The bottom-right leaf is couched with orange and gold for the richness of autumn.
The bottom-left leaf has light pink couching for the quiet stillness of winter.

The student learns gold and silver couching in this piece. Gold and silver change into different colors when they are couched with the various silk colors used for the veins.
